Broken garage door spring repair
The springs do most of the work of lifting your garage door. When one breaks, the door gets very heavy, and the opener usually can't lift it. If you're in Long Branch, Ocean Township, Neptune, Asbury Park, Wall, Belmar or Spring Lake, call and we'll connect you with a local garage door company that can replace the spring safely.

- A loud bang from the garage, like something fell
- A gap in the coiled spring above the door
- The door goes up a few inches and stops, or won't move at all
- The door feels much heavier than usual when you lift it
- Loose or slack cables hanging at the sides
Please don't fix it yourself
Most garage doors around here use torsion springs, the big coiled springs on a bar above the door. They're wound under very high tension, and they can cause serious injuries if they're adjusted, loosened or released the wrong way. Don't try to adjust or release them yourself, and don't try to lift the door by hand. Leave the door where it is, keep people and pets away, and call.
What the technician will do
A garage door technician will replace the broken spring with one sized for your door, check the cables, rollers and other parts, and make sure the door is balanced before they leave. Springs often wear out around the same time, so if one breaks they may suggest replacing both. Ask them to explain why before they do.
